AgeBetter with Safe at Home

Safe at Home is a program offering free home safety assessments and medication safety information to Dane County older adults to prevent in home falls and accidents. In collaboration with UW Madison Occupational Therapy program and the Madison College Occupational Therapy Assistant program, Safe at Home works with students to provide assessments throughout the academic year. Assessments are also provided by retired occupational therapist volunteers or others who have a similar health care services background or training. At the assessment, each participant receives an Intervention Recommendations list, a folder with information regarding falls prevention, medication safety, and community resources, and a free night light. Following the assessments, the Safe at Home program coordinator provides follow up calls to participants to ensure that the recommendations are clearly conveyed and to provide connections to local services and resources.
